By 1871 he was living back in Hampshire at New Alresford with his own family. By 1881 he was living at Packridge Farm, Soothill, Romsey Hampshire, England. and was still there in 1891.
Over his life his occupations were Dairyman, Farmer, Butcher, Bailiff, Drain Layer, Agri Carter, Farm Labourer and Dairyman. At one stage he was a farmer of 180 Acres employing two labourers and two boys.
He died on June 2nd. 1897, at age 62 in Southampton.
