Mary RAWLINS (née MUSSELL) was born sometime before July 14th in 1833, in Downton, Wiltshire, England. Her father was Thomas MUSSELL from Redlynch in Wiltshire, England. Her mother Charlotte Sarah Reeves ELDRIDGE from Whiteparish, also in Wiltshire.
She was baptized on July 14th. 1833, in Bramshaw in Hampshire and had 10 siblings: Susannah, Thomas, John, Harriet, Louisa Charlotte, James, William, Anna, Charlotte and Sarah.
She married Silas Arthur RAWLINS on November 7 1853, in Alderbury, Wiltshire and they had 6 children: George Edward, Mark, Arthur William, Harriet Sarah, Daniel and Robert Alvah Eustace.
In 1841, at aged 8, she was living with her parents Bishopstone, Wiltshire, England then they moved to Frenches Lodge, East Downton, Wiltshire, where she was still resident in 1851. By 1861, aged 28 she was living with her husband and sister-in-law Sister-in-law, in Downton, Wiltshire, and by 1871, they were living in New Alresford, Hampshire. After which she lived in 6 more places. Her occupation was a shopkeeper. according to the 1901 census and living at 35 Kent Street, Shirley, Southampton with a granddaughter aged 1 year. She died on September 2nd 1903, at age 70 in South Stoneham, Hampshire, England.
It is said that she was one of our Huguenot connections, as we know that the Mussells fled from France to Southampton in small boats after the St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre (1572). Co-incidentally, The Crombet families also fled from France into Holland, Belgium and Germany as they were Huguenots too.
