Rivers Harrison FRANCIS was born on March 30th 1883, at Motcombe in Dorset, England. His father was Edwin Francis who was born c.1857, in the same Dorsetshire village – he was a gardener. His mother was Harriet Fanny LAMBERT, who was born on July 7 1850, also in the same village, where they lived their whole lives. He had one, younger, brother Percy, who was born in 1888.

His wife Edith Lydia Ellen RAWLINS was born on February 27th 1884, at Packridge Farm, Rownham’s, Hampshire. They were married on December 19th 1907, in Andover, Wiltshire and they had 3 daughters: Edith Harriet, Evelyn Rosa and Gladys May.

Not long after, in May 1908, he and his new wife emigrated on the ship ‘Corsican’ to Quebec City, Canada; two of their daughters were subsequently born there. At the time of his move to Canada he was an apprentice carpenter Apprentice, later, back in England he became a Smallholder. We have no record of exactly when he left Canada but, by 1918, he was living in Burley, near Ringwood, Hampshire. His third daughter, Gladys was born in 1919. He served in the military c.1918 but we do not know in what capacity, where or for how long. At some time before September 29th 1939 he had moved to Danebury, Fernhill Road, Lymington in Hampshire.

He passed away on March 3rd 1969, at the age of 85, in Southampton, Hampshire, England. He was buried in Ashley Baptist Cemetery, New Milton, in the New Forest, Hampshire.
