Thomas left (1893) Ivydale Road School, Hove and joined the Royal Navy at Greenwich as a cadet aged 12 (1893-1900). His service record describes him as: Brown Eyes, Brown Hair, 5′ 4 1/2″ Tall (Hole??? on left breast). In the 1901 census he is recorded as having gone to ‘…serve as a Medic (sick berth attendant)’. He served on hospital ships at Gosport and Portsmoutn. He was at Gibraltat Hospital (1902) on the Phinenia and Hibernia and at Haslar Hospital Malta (1907) and also served aboard Victory 1 and Keng Edward VII. He became ill and died aged 29 (013) in St Pancras, London. He did not marry.
